Description

A beautiful handmade 100% cotton Layers of the Ocean mat.

The mat is approximately 50cm x 39cm in size. The cover is machine sewn with decorative applique stitching. The mat is quilted with a 2oz polyester inner, and has a durable linen lining underside.

Included are laminated name cards for each area of the Ocean. Below are examples of creatures and plants that may live in each area.

Sunlight Zone (Epipelagic, 0–200 m)	Dolphin, Sea Turtle, Tuna, Jellyfish	Kelp, Seagrass, Phytoplankton
Twilight Zone (Mesopelagic, 200–1,000 m)	Lanternfish, Squid, Hatchet fish	No true plants grow here because there is too little sunlight. Some phytoplankton may drift down from above.
Midnight Zone (Bathypelagic, 1,000–4,000 m)	Anglerfish, Gulper Eel, Giant Squid	No plants due to complete darkness.
Abyssal Zone (4,000–6,000 m)	Sea Cucumber, Brittle Star, Dumbo Octopus	No plants. Some bacteria live around the seafloor.
Hadal Zone (Ocean Trenches, 6,000+ m)	Snailfish, Amphipod, Sea Cucumber	No plants. Specialized microbes survive in extreme conditions.
